Loving my Dad

>> Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Took a quick trip to visit family in Pensacola.
My dad is a long term resident in Baptist Manor Nursing Home.

My visit went like this:
Friday 5:30 p.m. - the family picked up Popeye's chicken and ate with Dad out in the courtyard for supper.

Saturday 3:00 p.m. - we picked up milkshakes for an afternoon snack with Dad. We lounged on chairs on the patio and one by one wandered off to Target, etc. Mom and I stayed with Dad to enjoy the sun. Dad and I whistled tunes together that he used to play on the harmonica. He couldn't quite remember the songs but if I started, he could finish.

Sunday 10:30 - Mom and I picked up hot coffee at McDonald's (dad's favorite). We met him in his room.
He looked at me and said "What a surprise! You've come to visit me! I didn't know you were coming"

The funny times are priceless. He is such a sweetheart.

>> Monday, September 19, 2011

I'll take some(click here)  Pumpkin Moonshine  not to be confused with THIS!

I first heard about it on the Las Vegas edition of "Antique Roadshow".

The pictures are frameable artwork or inspiration for a watercolor as we approach this Fall Season.
I just bought it on Amazon.com. The picture on the back is one of my favorites.

AND If you're a pumpkin lover, try the chocolate cake recipe below.

Moist Pumpkin Chocolate Cake

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 (16 oz) can of pumpkin
1 1/3 cup water

In a bowl, mix all together.
Pour into a 9x13 pan and bake for the amount of time as as directed on box. (Don't add any egg or oil).
Let it cool, frost it, and serve or do like me and lightly dust with powdered sugar.

Knit Two, Pearl Two

>> Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Dug my knitting back out. This is a pair of socks, I am soooo looking forward to wearing..... or not.
When it gets dones, no one knows, because it is no pressure knitting
Artful knitting cares about the look not the compliance to the pattern,
Serious knitters (like serious golfers) are more about following the rules,
No Pressure Knitters know it is  a greater state of calm, not a product.
That's me.

What will it take to realize your blessings?

>> Sunday, September 11, 2011

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Today, I thought of the families who lost loved ones at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon or the planes that crashed. I also thought of the mothers that didn't see their sons and daughters return from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Everyone can remember where they were when they heard or saw the news on TV. I was driving home that morning with my sick son. He lay and watched the news all day. Later I thought "I shouldn't have, he'll have dreams".

It did affect him. He was one of the many thousands who fought in Iraq. "Operation Freedom". I realize my blessings.
I will not forget, I will remember by doing.

Who knew the afternoon would turn out this beautiful? And  perfect....for enjoying
Cammie's 24th birthday!

As like many times before (in summers gone by) we sat on the porch of Coyote Roadhouse for lunch.Kim, Justin and Cammie drove over from Sturgeon Bay, where they had been camping for the weekend.

Erik and Cammie are at it again, horsing around. Erik is leaving Saturday for Fort Leonard Wood. He has been promoted to Sargeant in the Army. Proud of my kids. They are happy and are doing things they love.

Another family photo for the scrapbook. It's a keeper!
