Laugh Wrinkles are good remedy

>> Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Have you read Michelle Slatalla's New York Times column? She makes me laugh.

I think i should also have laugh breaks. I wonder if I could download little comedy sketches to my IPOD. Don't you think that is brilliant? Has someone already thought of that?

Better, stronger, working harder

>> Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Would the word "risk" exist if no one ever tried it?

Who knew? Week 8, now running 2.6 miles every day and loving it.
I am much better, I am stronger and working myself harder.
Don is usually the one who looks at me out of the blue and says "I am happy", but now it is my turn to say it.

Don turns 50

>> Sunday, February 14, 2010

Don will be turning 50 in May. Hard to believe, when we think and act like we are not getting any older.

His other big birthdays .....

30: We were just too busy for a party. When he turned 30 Erik had just recently been born and was just a few months old. I did make it up to him on his 34th. I packed a bag and kidnapped him from work. We spent the weekend at the Applecreek Resort, in Door County.

40: When he was 40, we had a party at the house with Gary and Ellen Weidner, Curt Demott, Pam Fischer, and Joan Larsen.

50: Where have the years gone?

Ellen suggested we celebrate his birthday with a traveling birthday, visit family members and friends houses and have a birthday party at each stop.

Comfort Food

>> Tuesday, February 9, 2010

It isn't "hotdish" or a casserole.

My all time favorite comfort food is .......(wait for it)
PINEAPPLE PEACH DUMP CAKE

1 15 oz can peach pie filling
1 20 oz can crushed pineapple
1 package yellow cake mix, dry
1 1/2 sticks butter, sliced
Pour pineapple in 9x13 baking dish. Dump the peaches on top evenly.
Spoon the dry cake mix over the top (do not stir).
Dot the top with the butter slices, and bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes

Weekend Overload

>> Sunday, February 7, 2010

Wow, when I left work on Friday, I didn't have an inkling of what lay in store for me this weekend. Visit to the salon, working on our tax return and wedding talk with the Cammie and Erik. Whew!

Starting now, I am going to look at things in a new perspective and find renewal before I start the week to do it all over again. So, I am thinking about happy things; painting, knitting (and finishing), running with Bon Jovi singing in my ear, patio umbrellas with lights, sitting on the patio on a summer evening, a full moon in the winter sky. These are a few of my favorite things.......

Halfway There, No return

>> Friday, February 5, 2010

Week 6 of the 12 week training is pulling to a close. I picked up some kind of bug that caused me to feel wornout, so I only ran two times this week. Tonight I am pumping myself up to get back on track this week and resume training.

I think I'll also have to do a daily review of how I did both in exercise and diet so that I can be successful in losing that final ten pounds this year (hopefully before swimming suit and shorts season).

Plans for Week 7's food and fitness are:

  • Drink more water to combat dehydration and fatigue at work. I'll take a water bottle to work to keep on hand.

  • I learned from WebMD that frequent mini doses of caffeine will keep me more alert and focused than a single large dose, so I'll start by switching to one 8 oz cup of coffee in the morning, then I will have one after finishing lunch, instead of one 16 oz cup in the morning.

  • I am going to use the WebMD Healthy Shopping Guide & List and plan the menu for the week so that I don't eat badly because I haven't planned and after a day at work am too tired to think about it.

  • Start each meal with a broth based soup or a lettuce salad

  • Keep my daily calories at 1420

  • Return to the following weekly exercise plan (in addition to running)

  • Mon & Fri a.m. Yoga; Tues, Thurs & Sat a.m. weights; Wed evening Zumba & Yoga
