Miami to Key West

>> Thursday, December 30, 2010

The camera was fixed today....minor thing. The battery was in backward. That one could even put the battery in backward, is a flaw in the design. I accept no ownership for this.
Driving through the Keys with our eyes trained for "crocs" reminded us of Cammie's "whale" sighting in Carmel, CA a couple of years ago. It actually turned out to be a rock sticking up out of the ocean causing a current and blowing water.

Plans for tomorrow include a light breakfast, run on the beach, hanging out and taking it easy in the sun.

Nashville to Miami

Trying to eat healthy while we are on holiday. Popeye's Chicken, ain't that, but it was good eatin.
We all have running clothes for the morning runs on the beach and are going to make sure to drink plenty of Florida orange juice.

P.S.We have 20 electronic items between the 6 of us.
3 laptops, my Christmas IPAD :), 6 cellphones, 4 digital cameras, 5 ipods, 1 gps. I guess we should have talked, although it would probably have not made a difference.

Green Bay to Nashville

>> Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Don and I, Erik and Lauren left Green Bay at 0830 this morning ....heading toward the Florida Keys for a 10 day vacation. We left the dogs in Cody's care. (bless you Cody). I am thinking you will be glad, to give them back to us in a week, especially Erik's feisty puppy.

We drove through Sheboygan. Oh, by the way, Sheboygan has three water towers that have the same shape and stand in a row, just like the three little aliens in Toy Story 3.

Cammie and Justin joined up with us in Milwaukee. We stopped in Nashville, all enjoyed the hot tub and a soft bed.

Returning to a Healthy Focus

Susan gave me the runner's training book for Christmas. I sent her this picture and said "LOVE IT"

Susan:   Good! I was thinking that as Cammi runs and you run, PERHAPS there is at least a half marathon you two could plan for and do together! Not many Moms and daughters can say that. And maybe the training books would help you plan how when and where. If I were you, I'd shoot for Hawaii - they MUST have a half-marathon somewhere there

Ha! It is for your jewelry.
The reason for the colored pins inside.
Here is a picture of the one, Donnie made me, hanging in my bathroom.

Baby, It's cold outside

>> Thursday, December 23, 2010

The forecast says light snow beginning 3pm tomorrow (Christmas Eve). Can it get any prettier?  And then throw a red cardinal in and we can be the set of "Holiday Inn" or "White Christmas".

There are two in our house that appreciate the snow when they go outside to conduct business.
Rocky & Sassy

The Chrismtas movies are stacked on the hearth.
Cammie's favorite Christmas movie EVER!
She knows every word to the song "SISTERS"

Spirit of Christmas

>> Wednesday, December 22, 2010

                                                               (picture:JJeffrey Taylor)
The Spirit of Christmas is upon us.

My favorite candle, Thymes Frazier Fir, makes the house smell like a fresh cut Christmas tree.

Christmas Eve: Sausage Tidbits, Warm Caramel Corn and games in front of the fire (Uno, Cribbage, Yahtzee and Dominos) with Cam, Justin, Erik and Lauren

Christmas Day: Coffee & Monkeybread while checking out our stockings.

Sausage Tidbits - a Sallenbach favorite!!!!!!
1 lb. ground sausage (uncooked)
8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 c. Bisquick
Shape into small balls, about 1" in size.
Place on an ungreased baking sheet, spaced apart about an inch.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 to 30 minutes, or until well browned, flipping over the tidbits halfway through. Remove from oven and drain on several layers of paper towels.

Microwave Caramel Corn
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. dark corn syrup
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 stick margarine
1/2 tsp salt
4 quarts popped corn

Mix brown sugar, margaine, corn syrup and salt together in a 8 cup covered glass bown. Microwave on high to boiling (2 minutes). Cook for 2 more minutes on high. Remove and stir in baking soda until foamy. Put popcorn in grocery sack, pour syrup over popcorn and stir well. Fold and put in mocrowave on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove sack and shake well. Cook for 1/1/2 minutes longer. Take out and put on cookie sheet and stir as it cools.

MONKEY BREAD
Combine & Melt:
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 sticks butter

4 cans biscuits

Mix in bowl, set aside:
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Melt the first three ingredients and boil for 2 minutes. Cut each biscuit into 4 sections. Roll each piece in last 2 ingredients. Layer in greased 9x13 pan. Pour boiled mixture over it. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour (or until done). Cool in pan for 15 minutes then turn out on plate and serve while still warm.

Coquette Cafe

>> Sunday, December 19, 2010

Dinnner with friends at Coquette Cafe was so delicious.

We decided the best presentation was the grilled salmon tower atop a yukon gold potato with
Roasted Beets, and Lemon Horseradish Sauce
Our favorite vegetarian dish; an eggplant casserole.
Best dessert, (according to me) warm chocolate cake.
Here's our group. Notice the men on one end and the women on the other! Much to talk about!!!!
Afterwards, we braved the cold and walked the 8 blocks to the hotel. We stopped to take a picture of the blue stars hanging suspended by wire in each intersection. Even though the picture is a little blurry (I was shaking from the 23 degree weather), I think the picture is quite cool.
