Loving my Dad

>> Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Took a quick trip to visit family in Pensacola.
My dad is a long term resident in Baptist Manor Nursing Home.

My visit went like this:
Friday 5:30 p.m. - the family picked up Popeye's chicken and ate with Dad out in the courtyard for supper.

Saturday 3:00 p.m. - we picked up milkshakes for an afternoon snack with Dad. We lounged on chairs on the patio and one by one wandered off to Target, etc. Mom and I stayed with Dad to enjoy the sun. Dad and I whistled tunes together that he used to play on the harmonica. He couldn't quite remember the songs but if I started, he could finish.

Sunday 10:30 - Mom and I picked up hot coffee at McDonald's (dad's favorite). We met him in his room.
He looked at me and said "What a surprise! You've come to visit me! I didn't know you were coming"

The funny times are priceless. He is such a sweetheart.

The bluebird of happiness

>> Friday, June 10, 2011

I saw a bluebird this evening sitting on the shepherds hook where the bird feeders are hung. I have never seen one in the yard before.

BLUEBIRD - denotes spiritual joy and contentedness, foretells happy conditions in one's life.

There is a well known song called BLUEBIRD OF HAPPINESS (utube link)

(verse)
The beggar man and his mighty king are only diff'rent in name,
For they are treated just the same by fate.
Today a smile and tomorrow tears,
We're never sure what's in store,
So learn your lesson before too late, so

(refrain)
Be like I, hold your head up high,
Till you find a bluebird of happiness.
You will find greater peace of mind
Knowing there's a bluebird of happiness.
And when he sings to you,
Though you're deep in blue,
You will see a ray of light creep through,
And so remember this, life is no abyss,
Somewhere there's a bluebird of happiness.

Life is sweet, tender and complete
When you find the bluebird of happiness.
You will find perfect peace of mind
When you find the bluebird of happiness.
Two hearts that beat as one,
'Neath a new found sun,
We are in a world that's just begun,
And you must sing his song, as you go along,
When you find the bluebird of happiness.

I remember watching this movie with my dad when I was a kid.

Green Bay to Nashville

>> Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Don and I, Erik and Lauren left Green Bay at 0830 this morning ....heading toward the Florida Keys for a 10 day vacation. We left the dogs in Cody's care. (bless you Cody). I am thinking you will be glad, to give them back to us in a week, especially Erik's feisty puppy.

We drove through Sheboygan. Oh, by the way, Sheboygan has three water towers that have the same shape and stand in a row, just like the three little aliens in Toy Story 3.

Cammie and Justin joined up with us in Milwaukee. We stopped in Nashville, all enjoyed the hot tub and a soft bed.

Dad aka Elvis?

>> Saturday, November 27, 2010

Today we went to visit Dad and bring him lunch  in the nursing home. He is looking good.

When I was a kid, I told everyone in school, "My dad, looks like Elvis".

My mom and dad's wedding picture, May, 1958.
