Easter Weekend

>> Monday, April 25, 2011

View over from Tower Bridge toward the Bay. A gorgeous Easter weekend.
I love Spring.

One week ago in my post Thankful, we had 8 inches of snow and now green grass.

The boys worked on Erik's truck.

Cammie brought home her new Singer sewing machine.
She and I  altered a dress for her to wear to a wedding next weekend.

Cammie, Justin and Erik got wind up chicks in their Easter basket.
We were running races on the driveway.

Mock Orange Julius

>> Saturday, April 23, 2011

In 8th grade, I found a recipe for Mock Orange Julius. The recipe was, orange juice, carnation instant milk powder, sugar, and ice all mixed in the blender. (blenders and Dad repainting the kitchen ceiling, another day's blog entry)

Here's the present and updated version
8 oz orange juice
1 scoop whey protein powder (21.5 g)
1 tbsp honey
Ice
Mix in blender. Makes a great recovery drink after running.

To the employee who had the idea to mount snow/ice scrapers onto the light posts in the parking lot at work, I am grateful!

New Living Room curtains. Living Room carpet restretched.

Family room carpet installed.

Beauty Day

>> Sunday, April 10, 2011

After a full night of thunder, rain and lightning, we woke up to a greener lawn.
It turned out to be a beauty day today. At 1:00 it was 74 degrees with 90% humidity.
Good seed starting weather, in the cold frame (cilantro, french sorrel, lettuce, mesclun)
In starter pots on the heating pad (tomato, cucumber, peppers, squash).

Designing a metal blue bottles sculpture for the lily & daisy bed.
Don says "he'll build it".
Currently using bamboo sticks, [yawn] Above is a picture from May, 2010.
Thinking of something low to the ground and in the foliage, but still high enough to catch the sunlight.

A shortver version of this, with removable limbs.

The blue bottle tree (below) from a yard up in Bailey's Harbor is too tall for me.

Pancakes & laptops

>> Saturday, April 9, 2011

Another family weekend spending quality time over laptops and pancakes (and in Justin's case, Droids).

Plans for the day:
The Hronek's taxes - Cammie & Mary Ann
Sewing - Cammie
Start seedlings for vegetable garden - Mary Ann
Fix Justin's car - Justin & Erik
Cut down cottonwood tree in preparation for new shop foundation - Don

Cut the pussy willow down to the ground leaving lovely 6-7 ft branches. This grows new long full blossomed branches (highly sought after by florists). Sent 10, 6 ft long branches to Chris so that she can arrange a floral piece for her house. Keeping the shorter branches to root, the water from a pussy willow branch is like steroid fertilizer to apply to the roots of other plants.

It looks great against a colored wall, doesn't it.

I can breathe!

>> Friday, April 8, 2011

Home from San Diego. Sinuses to contend with. Thank goodness for my neti pot. That thing is amazing.

On Wednesday evening, my sinuses were very tender. Early hours of Thursday morning (0:dark crazy), I remembered my neti pot (christmas present from Susan) and got up and used it. Amazing! I spent the entire day yesterday, blowing my nose. Continued to use it a few more times and this morning, I am breathing easy and feeling good.
