Goodbye Beach

Sadly enough, we have run out of time.

Today we packed the truck to make the trip up to Los Angeles for a couple days, and then to continue north.

A final picture .......

and a sad goodbye.

From Mission Beach to Corvette Diner

Today the warmest day yet. We headed to Mission Beach and watched surfers at The Wave House.

Back to the camp site to sit in the sun.

In the evening we went to dinner at Corvette Diner.

Celebrating Grandpa Don's 70th birthday ( a little early).

"The boys" take a good picture and there is some resemblence.

Grandpa enjoyed the singing and special birthday treat.

We bought him 70 lottery tickets for his 70th birthday.

Coronado Island and another Family Night

Today we drove over to Coronado Island to have brunch with Phillip, Sarah and the family.

Brunch was English muffins (she made the night before), fried goat cheese with pecans and panko, cantaloupe, and poached eggs over lettuce, topped with balsamic.

It was sooooo yummy. Sarah is an amazing chef.

P.S. make sure never to mistake the lemon curd for hollandaise sauce. (Private joke).

For dessert, we sampled Sarah's birthday cake; an Arnie Palmer cake she made.
Quite unusual and so good.

We took off for a walk from their house over to visit the Hotel Del Coronado.

I couldn't resist window shopping as we walked.

The Hotel is a grand place.

Later in the evening, we cooked Chicken Foil Dinners over the coals.

Required:

aluminum foil
long fire tongs

Ingredients:

Serves One:
1 chicken breast
1 red potato
1/4 onion
Seasoning salt

Notes:

Tear a foil wrapper for each person.

Instructions:

slice the potatoes and onions.

spray the center of the foil with Pam
.Start with a layer of potatoes
Next lay on top the chicken breast

Lay another layer of potato slices

Dot with butter

Sprinkle with season salt

Top with onion slices

Fold foil into a flat package sealed well, make sure to crimp the ends
Place the dinner on coals.
Cook for 20 minutes, then flip and cook 20 more.
Unwrap and check one dinner to see if they are done.
Make sure the chicken is white and firm, completely done, before eating.

Auntie Erin spoiled us with hot chocolate chip cookies later into the evening.

Justin thought that was his plate, we set him straight.

We stayed by the fire until we could no longer hold our eyes open. Tomorrow.........let's do it again.

Bringing in the New Year - 2012

First day of 2012, was a gorgeous one in San Diego.

Cammie made it into town, lost no time, slipped out of her winter clothes and into her capri's.

Looking for Don? He is out cruising on his brother's bike.

Grandpa Don was down by the beach flying his kite.

And well, the Sallenbach girls, they were up to NO GOOD, but having fun!

Just goes to prove, you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your relatives!!!!!!

Grandma Chris made chili for us last night.

After dinner Megan entertained us with music.

Her video of singing is sure to hit You Tube soon. Stay tuned.

Almost There and it's New Year's Eve

We were sorry that Cammie was unable to join us in San Diego that night.

The fog rolled in and her incoming flight was cancelled. She had to spend the night in Chicago.

Can't think of a better place than spending New Year's with the family.

Leaving Green Bay heading to the beach for a week with the family.

As we drove through Colorado, it was easy to be inspired just as Katharine Lee Bates was when she wrote the poem "America the Beautiful" which later became the song. The wheat fields; and the majestic view of the mountains of Colorado. I have seen it so many times but they never lose their beauty.

This was a picture of the Christmas trees at Vail taken from a moving vehicle. Kind of cool. I didn't mean for that to happen.

Fyr Bal Festival No. 9

Cammie, Kayla, Jenna, Robert, Mary Ann, Don, Justin together for the 9th year to celebrate
Fyr Bal. A tradition of early Norwegians celebrating Midsummer's Eve.

Must stop at the Confectionary and fill purses with candy!!!!!!

The bonfire teepees on the shore have been built to be lit this evening. The evening bonfires represent the burning of the Winter and ushering in the long days of summer.

Everyone is starting to gather at Bob and Nan Evanson's cottage.

Host and Hostess, complete with helmets and Gnorman, the Gnome. Pictured in the book is Gnorman's match from "Match.com". A female gnome. Could she be the next Gnorma?
